About this issue

The Triskelion Collection II continues Isle of Man Post Office’s celebration of the Island’s most recognisable national symbol, presenting six further artistic interpretations of the Manx triskelion. Composed of three armoured legs joined at the thigh and bent at the knee, the triskelion has represented the Isle of Man for centuries and remains a powerful symbol of heritage, identity and pride.

With origins stretching back to ancient cultures across Europe and the Mediterranean, the triskeles was associated with movement, balance and cycles of renewal. The symbol became closely linked with the Isle of Man during the late 13th century, emerging during a period of significant political change as the Island’s history was shaped by Norse, Scottish and English influences. By the 14th century, the triskelion had become firmly established as the national emblem of Mann, appearing on seals, coins and official documents.

Today, the three legs remain central to everyday life on the Isle of Man, appearing on the Manx flag, currency, local businesses, cultural organisations and sporting events, including the world-famous TT races. It is a symbol recognised around the world and continues to inspire contemporary artists, designers and craftspeople.

This second collection showcases the continued evolution of the triskelion through modern creative expression, demonstrating how a historic emblem can remain relevant across generations while preserving its connection to the unique identity and heritage of the Isle of Man.
